2 Days 1 Night Samburu National Reserve Private Tour

Located in northern Kenya along the Ewaso Ng'iro River, Samburu National Park is celebrated for its dramatic landscapes and rare wildlife. The arid savannah is home to the "Samburu Special Five": Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk.

The river provides a lifeline for elephants, lions, and leopards, while the rugged terrain and cultural encounters with the Samburu people add depth to the safari experience. Samburu is ideal for travelers seeking something off the beaten path.

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your residential location, hotel or preferred location in Nairobi at 6:00 AM by your professional driver-guide. The journey takes you north through Thika, Nanyuki, Isiolo, and Archer's Post, offering scenic views as the landscape gradually changes from the lush central highlands to the rugged semi-arid terrain of northern Kenya. A brief stopover in Nanyuki provides an opportunity to stretch, refresh, observe and take pictures at the Equator. You will have stop in Nanyuki town, where you’ll enjoy lunch (self-sponsored), before continuing to Samburu County.

Continue your journey through the picturesque landscapes of Mount Kenya's foothills before arriving at your camp/lodge at approximately 2:30 PM. After check-in, relax and freshen up before heading out for an evening game drive.

Samburu National Reserve is one of Kenya's most unique wildlife destinations, covering approximately 165 square kilometers along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. The reserve is renowned for its striking semi-arid landscapes, diverse wildlife, and the famous "Samburu Special Five"—species rarely found in other Kenyan parks.

What to expect:

  • The Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Gerenuk, and Beisa oryx
  • Elephants along the Ewaso Nyiro River
  • Lions, leopards, and cheetahs
  • Buffaloes, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and various antelope species
  • Over 450 species of birds

Your guide will make strategic stops for wildlife viewing and photography while sharing fascinating insights into the reserve's wildlife, and ecology.

After the game drive at around 6:00 PM, return to your camp/lodge for dinner and an overnight stay

Start your day with an early morning breakfast at around 7:00 AM, before checking out of the camp/lodge. After check-out, start proceeding to the Buffalo Springs National Reserve, where you’ll have a morning game drive, and have a chance to spot the animals you missed in Samburu National Reserve. At 11:30 AM, you will proceed to Buffalo Springs, where you can relax and enjoy a refreshing swim in the designated swimming area while taking in the tranquil surroundings. At 1:00 PM, a picnic packed lunch will be served, providing the perfect opportunity to unwind before beginning the journey home.

At 2:00 PM, you will depart for Nairobi, making a brief refreshment stop in Nanyuki along the way. Arrival back in Nairobi is expected at approximately 9:30 PM, marking the end of an unforgettable two-day adventure that combines wildlife viewing, cultural immersion, and relaxation in the beautiful landscapes of northern Kenya.
